Although Reiki (Ray’ key) has been said to originate from Buddhism, almost all who actually research into its history and understand its affect realize that reiki is religiously neutral. Although Reiki in its true sense has been around forever, Japanese Dr. Mikao Usui was the first to begin to teach it as a healing art. Born in 1865, Usui Sensei as he is called by his Japanese students, founded the Usui System of Reiki after taking a twenty one day course in Isyu Guo on Mount Jurama. Today Reiki is one of the most successful techniques for natural calming, reducing stress and self healing.
Reiki is created from two Japanese words. “Rei” which means “God’s Wisdom” or “Higher Power” and “Ki” which means “life force energy”. Therefore, Reiki could technically be referred to as “spiritually guided life force energy.” But what is Reiki? The powers of Reiki is based on the idea that an unseen energy life force flows through all of us. If this “life force” is low, the person is more likely to feel sick or more likely to feel stressed. A high level of “life force” will not only create a happier, content and healthier individual, but also can affect the daily life of others around you. Reiki can be used not only to heal yourself but also to heal others. Good Massage therapists and Bowen specialists automatically work in Reiki into their treatments.
During and after a correct Reiki treatment you should be able to feel the energy flowing through and around you. Some describe it as a wonderful glowing radiance flowing through and around you. Reiki can be used to treat individual areas, or the entire body. It can correct or heal body injuries, emotions, mind and spirit imbalances. After a Reiki treatment you should feel relaxed and at peace and secure. The miraculous results from reiki treatments are said to be incredible.
Reiki is a natural safe method of spiritual healing and self improvement that anyone can use. It has been used to effectively cure almost every known disease, and has been used to decrease healing time for major body injuries both internal and external when used with normal medical treatments.
Reiki is very simple technique to learn, even though all who use it talk about its incredible power. The normal method to learn Reiki is through classroom instruction by a Reiki Master, who teaches the student to “tap into” the energy life force that is Reiki. To learn Reiki successfully, you do not need to be incredibly smart or gifted in any way. In fact, most Reiki Masters will tell you that you do not even have to believe the power of Reiki is real, just the willingness to try. Nor is Reiki a religion, no belief system is required to experience its healing powers. However, after learning Reiki, many say they experience a much greater connection with their spiritual self and with God.
Although there is no requirements to join a Reiki class, Reiki Masters (following the lead of Dr Mikao Usui) suggest that students practice simple ethical ideals to promote peace and harmony in the world around them. Several years after finally understanding and teaching Reiki, Dr Usui created the Reiki Ideals. It is suggested that that the Ideals came in part from the Japanese Emperor Meiji’s Five Principles. Usui developed this Ideals to add spiritual balance to Usui Reiki. Basically, the Ideals state that Reiki is more then the use of light energy. It is the active commitment to improve oneself.
